Phil Potempa’s column at www.nwi.com.
A tiny item in a local Catholic Church bulletin tipped me off that something must be up.
Eddie Blazonczyk Sr. and his legendary Grammy polka band The Versatones are musical history, not just in our region and Chicago, but worldwide.
So when I read in last weekend’s church bulletin at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Calumet City that Eddie Blazonczyk and The Versatone’s Polka Band would be headlining the 39th Annual Paczkowy Bal aka “The Donut Dance” from 6 to 10 p.m. March 5, I was excited to spread the news.

It”s been a long time and now the end is near. Polka will never be the same with this highlighted band leaving the circuit. It’s a sad day in Polka history..Your music and entertainment will live on in our hearts as we remember the good old days and the era of Eddie Jr as well. God Bless and let us all keep a polka song in our hearts.

Eddie Sr and Jr have always been a class act. Thank you for your hard work throughout the years and we hope to see Eddie Jr back on stage soon.
I’ve heard people say that polka music is dying for the past 40 years.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the band for many years since my brother Bob played with Edie for a long time. All the band members will always be remembered.
